Rwanda has been selected for a pilot project in Africa that will have over 70 kids with disabilities attending a training clinic in sitting volleyball, Goal ball and Athletics. The 8 day camp will run from Feb 12th-18th and countries like Uganda, Kenya, Tanzaia, Burundi, DRCongo, Rwanda and Ethiopia will send representatives. According to the President of the National Paralympic Committee Dominique Bizimana, the major goal of the clinic is to boost games of the disabled among the youth which could lead to Africa organizing youth games for the disabled. “Youth games for the disabled are held in Asia, Europe and other continents but there are not there in Africa. So this pilot project will boost the games and other clinics will be held in other countries in the near future. “All this is being done so that the continental can hold its first youth Paralympics games.” Bizimana said. Rwanda is one of the countries on the continent that has excelled in Paralympics games after winning the world sitball championship last year and also qualifying for the London Paralympics Games of 2012 among other achievements. ostine.arinaitwe@yahoo.co.rw
