What Christmas means to children

Over the weekend, 120 children convened at Urugwiro village to take part in the Annual Christmas Party with the First Lady, Mrs. Jeannette Kagame. The children were treated to lots of fun which included entertainment from young artists, playing at the bouncing castle, painting faces, gifts and lots of yummy foods, not forgetting the Christmas cake. Mrs. Jeannette Kagame, told the children that they are celebrating this season to remember the birth of Jesus Christ who came to save mankind. Amidst all the fun at the Christmas party, children had to know the reason as to why they celebrate Christmas and why a bash was thrown for them in celebration of Christmas. There are lots of ideas that different children have in their mind about why Christmas is celebrated. Some think it’s all about eating the best of foods, others think it’s about spending the day with their relatives while some think it’s about going out and having fun on that day. However, the children at the Annual Christmas Party all had brilliant responses as to what Christmas means to them. Herve Mucyo 9, a grade four pupil at Green Hills Academy said that Christmas means the birth of Jesus Christ who died for the human race. “Having lots of fun makes Christmas a great day, people should remember that it’s the birth of Jesus Christ,” Mucyo said. Kevin Musoni 9, also said that Christmas is about, “spending time with family but especially celebrating Jesus Christ’s birthday.” Children should know that however much, lots of exciting stuff happens during the Christmas season, Jesus is the reason for the celebration.
