The Rwanda Initiative for Sustainable Development (RISD) has trained seventy local leaders in land dispute management and the new Land Law. According to a release issued by RISD, those trained were from Nyamagali cell of Gatsata sector, Gasabo and Kabushinge cell in Musanze district, Northern Province. ‘Land wrangles that range back from the pre-colonial era are more often a result of denying women (widows) or children their rights to own land,” states the releaseThe training was also attended by the Executive Secretaries of Gatsata and Nyamugali. RISD conducted the training with funding from USAID. Among the trainees are local mediators (Abunzi), Village heads, and other local leaders. Others who were trained include members of the National Women’s Council. The release also states that Nyamagali and Kabushinge were selected by the Ministry of Water Environment and Natural resources as pilot areas. Ends
