AMAVUBI’S goal scoring machine, Olivier Karekezi has gone ahead and urged his team-mates to finish off the job in today’s Cecafa Tusker Challenge Cup final against the Uganda Cranes in Dar es Salaam. This match between the two sides is going to be a repeat of the clash that occurred in Nairobi in 2009. Back then, Uganda left the wasps in their shadows as they beat them 2-0. However, Karekezi, who is also the captain of Amavubi, has asked his teammates to win the final for Amavubi fans. Karekezi told Times Sport after yesterday’s training session, “We want to win the trophy because it is the best way to thank the fans for sticking with us through thick and thin.” Karekezi has been instrumental in Rwanda’s journey to the final after scoring five of the team’s 12 goals. He tops the tournament’s scoring charts but Emmanuel Okwi could catch up if he scores today. The Uganda Cranes’ striker has four goals while Rwanda’s Meddie Kagere has netted three goals. bonnie.mugabe@newtimes.co.rw
