Editor, Concerns have arisen over the awarding of tenders at the district level. The Auditor General’s reports have often cited illegal tendering as one of the key issues in the country. In the past, tenders awarded at the district level have come under heavy scrutiny and raised many questions, with persistent reports that the tendering process is always marred by lack of transparency. Reports suggest that some district tender committees invite bids but then disclose details of the tenders to certain bidders who end up winning but in exchange for kickbacks. The political will to fish out corrupt officials and punish them accordingly has won us many plaudits worldwide – hence the reason the whip should be cracked on the rotten few.
