For the past two years since Rluta started doing music professionally, she has been paying attention to what stories she wants to tell and how to tell them. She has also been learning so much about not only the process of creating a body of work but also creating a safe space to validate it and pour her all into it. To prove that, the vocalist has released her first Extended Play (EP) dubbed ‘Phases’ which has been on replay for many music lovers who had listened to the EP. So my music journey so far has been full of experimenting, constant learning and enjoyment. What inspired the EP title? I like to play around with sound and storytelling and I love variety, so the name ‘Phases’ came about when I realised that I had different stories that talked about the unhappy endings that we experience as young adults when it comes to our definition of love and relationships. From self-preservation, knowing better but not doing better or just liberating yourself from the nonsense. ‘Phases’ is meant to relate to people who have been through one or more these ordeals. What is your favorite song on the EP and why? My favorite song on the project is ‘Mbeshya’. It was the last song that I wrote and paid the most attention to lyrically and sonically. It's one of the songs that makes you feel, listen, and even cry. When I wrote it, I remember saying, “yes, this is what we were missing. It sets quite a bar for me and my upcoming projects. How are fans reacting to the EP? They love it. I have heard that it's been on replay and I've been trying not to blush. The lead single, ‘Don't Bother Me’, has been on repeat and I love it. It's definitely been a great motivation to do better and continue putting out my best. What would you tell someone who has not yet listened to the ‘Phases’? Take your time to listen to every song. I'm sure there's something you'll like in there. It's on all audio platforms and YouTube. So go ahead and subscribe, listen and share.
