The local basketball federation (Ferwaba) has resumed the holiday talent search camp aimed at selecting players for the female national junior team. The initiative started last December with the boys’ selection under the auspices of the Ministry of Sports and the basketball federation. And yesterday, it resumed this time for the girls and is scheduled to last until April 20 on six sites in Kigali and two in the Southern and Northern Provinces. Female participants between 14-20 years from different secondary schools are expected to contest. We are ready to receive as many players as can register, said Jean Luice Mugabo, Ferwaba Secretary General commenting on the number of female players that should register. He said the camp will hold off action during the National Genocide Mourning period. Contestants will camp at Kimisagara, Kimihurura, Rafiki, Kabeza, Amahoro courts and Kacyiru in Kigali while counterparts in Rubavu and Huye compete on Stella Maris Parish courts and at Rwanda University courts respectively. Talented players selected in this camp will undergo thorough training to prepare them to start their national team career. However, the camp has also attracted male players from age 14-18 and 18-20 years. The male junior was selected early this year and yesterday resumed preparations for the Zone V championship. Last year’s camp to detect talented male players attracted 400 contestants and 12 players were selected to form the first national junior team. Ends
