Saturday APR 80-63 REG Rwanda international Charlotte Umugwaneza scored a game high 18 points on Saturday night to help APR beat Rwanda Energy Group to host the summit of the Rwanda women’s basketball league table. Charles Mbazumutima guided the league debutants to overcome REG 80-63 at Lycée de Kigali as Esperance Mukaneza’s side suffered the first defeat of the season. APR won the first two quarters 21-18, 21-13 and made it 42-31 going into half-time. However, the army side, led by point guard Sandra Kantore and Charlotte Umugwaneza, returned to the second half well organized to claim the third quarter 25-10. REG tried to bounce back to take the fourth quarter 22-13 but it was not enough to do the come back and allow APR finish the game triumphant. In another game, IPRC-Huye beat former champion The Hoops Rwanda 74-57, IPRC-Huye took the first two quarters 24-13 and 18-17. Joselyne Munyaneza’s team went on to take the third quarter 14-9 and fourth quarter both sides equalized 18-18. APR lead the league standings with 10 points as REG dropped to second place with nine points.
