Rayon Sport’s entire management has resigned. The Paul Muvunyi led management is demanding for more respect from the local football’s governing body, Ferwafa. According to the club, it should be compensated for losses it incurred in the post-Caf Confederation cup fixture against El Merreikh in Khartoum Monday evening. Muvunyi’s earlier threatened to resign and he isn’t willing to scale down on his stand currently if Ferwafa does not respond to their grievances within two weeks. Ferwafa say they are aware of the issue but they haven’t got any official complaint from Rayon and they are willing to take the necessary steps if approached. The fact that Rayon now has taken that route suggests that the formal channels have failed, which inevitably calls for the intervention of the Ministry of Sports The Ministry needs to urgently come in for arbitration to resolve the dispute which puts Rayon in a tight corner ahead of their second fixture against El Merreikh. Muvunyi wondered how a team going to represent the country can go through what Rayon went through on their way to Khartoum. We spent over Frw15 millions towards the team’s trip to Sudan and in my opinion things are not supposed to be like that. It’s so disappointing from our (Rayon) point of view to see that, no one came up to support us during that challenge time, Muvunyi complained. The action of throwing in the towel stems from what Muvunyi described as failure by the ministry of sports and Ferwafa to his help his team like it’s supposed to be the case for all teams representing the country. He said, If these issues are not addressed as soon as possible, I will resign as Rayon Sport president. For starters, Rayon’s delegation to Khartoum was kept stranded at Kenya’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi for more than 24 hours awaiting clearance from the Sudan’s Immigration department. The mess started early in the week when the team postponed it’s trip on two separate occasions, before finally making the trip on Friday with the game scheduled for Saturday. Further to that, the team moved in two bunches from Nairobi with 15 players traveling in the first group on Saturday evening and the remaining ten plus officials traveled the following day. The Blues had initially been scheduled to fly out last Wednesday but a break down in communication between the club officials and the sports ministry led to a mix up in flight bookings. Rwanda’s representatives have a mountain to climb as they must overturn a 3-0 deficit to reach the group stages of the competition. The Ministry of Sports too can help in this saga. In the short term, the ministry needs to activate an arbitration mechanism to keep such happening away from the Rwandan football scene. Currently fourth on the national football league pile Rayon may have done themselves a favour. Before they put the blame on the football association let them first probe their vice president Said Habiyakare. Habiyakare is blamed for having created the mix-up in the travel arrangements. Rayon had initially been booked to travel with Kenya Airways flight but afterwards Rayon vice president (Habiyakare) went ahead and booked another flight for Wednesday without consulting neither the Ministry or Ferwafa something that led to so much confusion at the travel agency (Satguru), which was handling the booking.
