EASTERN PROVINCE NYAGATARE — Umutara livestock farmers will have something to smile about with the completion of Nyagatare dairy firm set for May. The milk producers have been counting losses during the rainy season when milk production peaks. According to Charles Gasana the acting coordinator of Umutara Community Resource and Infrastructure Development Project (UCRIDP), the long awaited dairy plant is expected to be tested in mid April, while early May is slated as the tentative date for the official opening. In an interview with The New Times recently, Gasana explained that the plant is nearly complete after UCRIDP injected in more money. At the moment everything is almost in place to speed up the work so that we try to beat the deadline, he said. The dairy plant is jointly owned by Umutara Dairy Marketing Cooperative which owns over 60% shares, BRD with 20% and RDI with 20%. Gasana estimated that UCRIDP injected about Frw1billion towards the construction.Ends
