Dear editor, I was saddened by the system fishers use to catch fish in our lakes. They are using the unselective nets that kill even the small young fish. This is uncalled for and would very much affect the small fishing industry in the country. We have very many small lakes that need strict rules to control fishers who are working in unscientific way. Their fishing program is unscheduled and is very old fashioned. Let the concerned authorities come in to rescue the situation, before fish comes to be history in our country. We have small, but delicious fish which can maintain our protein supply throughout the year. Some rules have been set by the relevant authorities but there is no efficient follow up and hence we continue to witness not only poor fishing methods but also lake water pollution. Let some immediate measures be taken forthwith. Ngoma
