Public-Private Partnership key to sustainable dev’t – Kagame

President Kagame, yesterday, delivered a keynote address at the Africa Commonwealth Business Council in Perth, Australia, during a session themed; “Reshaping partnerships for sustainable growth”.The session provided an opportunity to leaders in government and in business, to look towards Africa as a key trade and investment destination. “We have seen time and again that neither business nor government alone can flourish without the other. Government support enhances strategies to foster private sector growth and sustainable economic development “But it is only in partnership with business that wealth creation commensurate with the needs of the people, as well as prosperity, will happen,” Kagame said. President Kagame commended the Commonwealth Business Council for providing a gateway through which Rwanda joined the Commonwealth and the important platform it offers for global debate on trade and investment. The session moderator, Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede, CEO of Access Bank, described Rwanda as a special case study for successful partnerships and invited President Kagame to share his thoughts and experiences on how to unlock the potential of nations. “The nation has gone through some traumatic experiences, but in a very short space of time, they have turned things around remarkably so much so that they are world beaters on a number of economic indices. Clearly, the Rwandan people and their government have shown what can be done when the partnership equation is turned around,” he said. Following President Kagame’s address, participants had the opportunity to interact with the panel, which included Tom Albanese, CEO of Rio Tinto, a leading international mining group, Managing Director and CEO of Paladin Energy Ltd, Mr. John Borshoof and Group Chief Executive of Oando Plc of Nigeria, Adewale Tinubu. Also present at the forum from Rwanda were the CEO of RDB, John Gara and PSF Chairman, Faustin Mbundu, who had earlier hosted participants of the CBF to a special ‘Rwanda breakfast’ in order to showcase investment opportunities available in the country.
