WESTERN PROVINCE RUSIZI — The victims of the February earthquake that hit Rusizi and Nyamasheke districts, in the Western Province, on Monday received Frw12 million donated by the Southern province. The cheque was handed over by the Governor Fidel Ndayisaba to his Western Province counterpart, Penolope Kantarama. The event took place at Hotel Du Lac in Kamembe sector in Rusizi. In his speech Ndayisaba noted that donating the money to the two districts was aimed at helping improve the living conditions of the victims. Like our neighbours and fellow Rwandans, our province also felt the plight of our colleagues who were killed and others left homeless by the earthquake which hit the districts of Rusizi and Nyamasheke. That is why we decided to donate the Frw12Million in order to improve their living conditions, Ndayisaba said. Ndayisaba was accompanied by officials from his province the RDF Division Commander of southern province, Mubaraka Muganga, and southern province Regional Police Commander, Faustin Ntirushwa. Visiting this region which was devastated by the earthquake was also aimed at assessing with our own eyes living conditions of the victims, the governor said, adding they would act as ambassadors in mobilizing and encouraging other people to donate to the quake victims. Kantarama applauded her counterpart and asked him and his delegation to maintain fraternity between the two provinces. she also noted that despite efforts by the government and other relief organisations, quake victims still face stiff challenges like lack of adequate shelter and health facilities which need immediate attention. During their visit, the delegation also visited Bushenge Hospital and Shangi Primary School in Nyamasheke where they addressed residents. They also visited and observed a moment of silence in memory of the victims who died at Nkanka parish, Nkanka sector in Rusizi.Ends
