Two American players, Cleveland Thomas Jr and Adonis Filer, have joined Rwanda Energy Group (REG)’s camp as the playoffs of the local league continue. Thomas and Filer are talented guards who played for REG during the recent edition of the Basketball Africa League (BAL) and helped the team to reach the quarterfinals of the showpiece. During the BAL for example, Thomas contributed a game-high 26 points as REG defeated AS Sale 91-87 at the Dakar Arena in March. He was terrific for most of the BAL’s Sahara Conference games, averaging a team-high 19 points per game. Point guard Filer also made key contributions to REG’s BAL endeavours as he made a higher number of assists during the tournament, in addition to scoring and dictating the play. One of the great games he played during the BAL was against AS Sale where he not only helped REG with 14 points, but also established a new BAL record with 14 assists. Meanwhile, REG and The Patriots started their playoff campaign on a flying note, as each won its first semi-final tie convincingly on Friday, August 26. REG defeated APR 85-47 on Friday evening, August 27 at Kepler University Court, while The Patriots overcame Tigers Basketball Club 91-45 on the same day at Aiper-Nyandungu Court.
