The national rugby women’s team ‘Blackbucks’ has been invited for this year’s Kyadondo Rugby 7s tournament in Kampala. The prestigious annual event that will be rolling in its third edition is expected to attract a number of countries and secondary schools from the region. The theme of the tournament is Women Networking in Sports and according to the organisers, the main audience is young women. It will also be used to further promote Women’s Rugby in the region and foster rugby ties worldwide, the invitation letter from Kyadondo Rugby Club read in part. The Blackbucks have made two appearances in the event. In 2005, they whacked Uganda’s Thunderbirds 80-00 while in 2007, they finished third thanks to their star forward Angelique Nzabanita who went on to scoop the tournament’s Most Valuable Player and Top scorer accolades. The Blackbucks have made significant strides in the competition over the years so the local rugby federation (RRF) is looking forward to a similar performance this year, one of the federation officials Gerard Nsenga highlighted. Kyadondo will provide accommodation, internal transport and food for all participating teams. The tournament due in May will also act as a preparation ground for the women’s 7s World cup Qualifiers scheduled for later this year.Ends
