Health NGO happy with grassroots support

Kayonza – Partners In Health/Inshuti Mu Buzima (PIH/IMB0), a health non-government organisation, has commended local leaders in Kayonza District for their support. The remarks were made at a function to introduce the newly appointed Executive Secretaries of the sectors PIH operates over the weekend. The district recently reshuffled several sector heads. Edward Shyaka, the PIH representative in Kayonza, said that Executive Secretaries from each of the sectors had a stake in the success of PIH intervention programmes. “We deal with non-clinical programmes that cover social-economic issues...We gave the new leaders general mapping of our areas of operation. It is important they know what we do for the common good,” he observed. Xavier Murangira, the outgoing Executive Secretary of Rwakwavu Sector, which houses the headquarters of PIH, observed that he had a good working relationship with PIH during his tenure. “PIH has worked hard to transform the livelihoods of the people in our sectors...PIH is next to none in fighting HIV/Aids, poverty, promoting education and helping the needy to get health insurance,” he said. Meanwhile, the mayor of Kayonza District, John Mugabo, explained that the rotation of sector leaders was meant to enhance performance. Some sector leaders had served for over five years in one area, and needed change, he pointed out. “Local leaders can’t serve in one area for over five years...they tend to be compromised. The transfers were not for disciplinary but efficiency purposes,” he noted. PIH/IMB has been working in Rwanda since 2005. Ends
