Renovation of Military barracks begin

GASABO - The Rwanda Defence Forces (RDF), yesterday, launched a project to renovate all the barracks in the country. The renovation activities were officially launched by the Chief of Defence Staff, Lt.Gen. Charles Kayonga, at Kami Military barracks in Kinyinya sector, Gasabo District. In an interview with The Sunday Times at Kami Military barracks, yesterday, Col Joseph Nzabamwita, the Defence and Military spokesperson said: “The objective of this renovation process is aimed at RDF sufficiently using its own production capability to reconstruct our country whereby the soldiers and officers contribute money and expertise in rebuilding our own barracks.”. He noted that the RDF has the necessary skills. According to Col. Nzabamwita, the renovation activities at Kami are will be finished within a period of one week. Col. Nzabamwita said that out of the 16 units that are going to be renovated, each will have the capacity to accommodate between 100 and 120 soldiers after completion. “RDF doesn’t wait for the tax payers’ money to come and be used in reconstructing our barracks and other programs, because the tax payers’ money should be used in other developmental activities like building of schools and health centres,” Col. Nzabamwita said. He asked all Rwandans to develop a culture of self reliance saying that this will enable them to carry out various developmental activities around the country without waiting for the financial support from the government. He noted that RDF has also contributed their expertise in various labour activities in the country like during the Army Weeks where they built bridges, schools and offered medical treatment to the Rwandan population.
