British High Commissioner boosts NPC

The Britain’s High commissioner to Rwanda Ben Llewellyn-Jones has donated 300 pounds (about Rwf250, 000) and also sought more funds for the National Paralympics Committee’s bid to host the Africa sub Saharan sitting volleyball championship next month. It is one of Rwanda’s chances of participating in the London 2012 Paralympics games and the Paralympics body is still sourcing for Rwf 49m to host the event. Rwanda is seeking to send representatives in the fields of Athletics, power lifting and sitting volleyball to the London Paralympics games on top of sending other representatives in the Olympic Games. Elie Manirora, who heads of the organizing committee of the championship scheduled for November 22-27, praised Llewellyn-Jones’s noble gesture and said they are still sourcing for more funds to raise the budget. “We sincerely appreciate his help. Not only did he donate his own money but he helped us get 3000 pounds, which could even rise. We are now looking for more funds to meet our budget of Rwf 49m,” Manirora said. Over 10 countries will take part in the event. Rwanda won the world sitball championship last year in Kampala-Uganda after defeating Germany in the final. Llewellyn-Jones also said his country “is ready to host the best Olympics games ever.” Ends
