Rwanda National Police (RNP) scooped gold medals in football and volleyball at the Police Chiefs Cooperation Organization (EAPCCO) after beating Burundi and Kenya respectively in the finals on Friday. The Rwandan Police football team beat Rukinzo FC of Burundi 5-4 on penalties after the two teams were tied to 3-3 draw after extra time in a tense encounter held at Kigali Pele Stadium Burundi’s Rukinzo FC on Friday put up an impressive comeback with a 2-0 victory over Vincent Mashami’s men to force a 3-3 draw on aggregate as the latter won the first game 3-1 on Tuesday. Danny Nduwimana set up Tity Hakizimana to give the Burundians the lead in the 16th minute before Cedric Mavugo found himself one on one with goalkeeper Janvier Kwizera to score the second goal in the 82nd minute. The pair had to play the extra time to decide the champions but neither side managed to grab a winner only to go for the penalties which ended 5-4 in favor of Rwanda’s Police FC The likes of Jean Bosco Kayitaba, Aimé Ntirushwa, Abouba Sibomana, Danny Usengimana and Didier Mugisha successfully scored their penalties while Rukinzo FC netted through Cedric Muvugo, Juma Simpo, Jimmy Irakoze Jimmy before Abdul Karim Mpawenimana missed one. Champions Police FC received gold medals while they will be paraded with the trophy during EAPCCO Games closing ceremony on Monday, March 27 at BK Arena. Meanwhile, the RNP Volleyball team won the title after beating Kenya (GSU) 3-1 to win the second game against the Kenyans and hence take home the title. Christian Hatumimana’s team started on a high note taking the first set 25-21 and 30-28 in the second set before Kenya pulled one back to take the third set 25-21. Rwanda won the third and deciding set 25-21 to win the title.
