The post office is embracing ICT

Editor, I wish to respond to Allan Ssenyonga’s article titled; “The Post Office should try innovation, not denial”, (The New Times September 19). The complementarity between internet and Post office services is a must to sort out e-commerce around the world. Those who deny it, probably misunderstand the postal industry and its services. Ssenyonga forgot that the integration of ICT is a key factor for the Post Office, to be used for innovation process, in order to change the way its businesses are operated and delivering quick and reliable services to customers. Ssenyonga added that, “email has been the biggest killer of the Posts Office business”. However, he ignored the fact that people still send and receive small packages and parcels through Post Office. We do a wide range of activities such as delivery of express mail, home delivery of parcels, small packages, promote direct mails, e-commerce, philathery, post logistic, cyber post, among other things. Ssenyonga said the recent transfer of the post office from the city centre to Kacyiru and then to Muhima has left the impression of a dying institution. The health and performance of any company cannot be based on changing location but through its income and cash flow statements among other things. We are not underestimating the power of technology but we embrace ICT in order to deliver the services to meet the need of our customers and better manage our worldwide post delivery system.
