JCI vows to develop the youth

KIGALI - Junior Chamber International (JCI) President, Kentaro Harada, Friday, pledged that his organization will work hard to develop youth in the world. He made the remarks, Friday, during a meeting with Prime Minister Bernard Makuza at his offices.. “By providing development opportunities that empower young people to create positive change, JCI is on a mission to change the world by transforming communities and changing lives. JCI will take action to accomplish its vision of being the leading global network of young active citizens,” he said. He further commended the Rwandan government for spearheading the progress of youth in the country adding that it signifies the commitment of government towards the youth. “I thank the Government of Rwanda for the support they have always shown to the youth in general and JCI Rwanda, and share the main objectives and the 2011 plan of action that young active people from all over the world try to promote in their own countries”. He added that this year, the organization will embark on an exciting journey to position JCI as a global organization with the ability to impact the world. Harada acknowledged that they are working in close collaboration with the United Nations Foundation to promote and implement the United Nations Millennium Development Goals. Makuza, appreciated the efforts that young people, members of JCI, are doing around the world, and emphasized that youth are not only the future but also the present. He added that Rwandan youth should take ownership and responsibility for their actions in order to develop their country as well as brighten their future. The premier highlighted that the Government will always support JCI Rwanda, and pledged to support JCI Rwanda host the JCI conference for Africa and Middle East in 2015, where more than 1,000 young people will be present in Kigali for the celebration of the 100th Anniversary of JCI and many others activities. After meeting with the Prime Minister, Harada went to Gikomero Sector in Gasabo District with JCI Rwanda members where they donated 300 health Insurances (Mutuelle de santé) to the most vulnerable people, and children who cannot afford it. JCI is a worldwide organization of young active citizens aged 18-40 who share the belief that in order to create positive change, they must take collective action to improve themselves in the world.
