Police and military officers complete training in road security

164 Rwanda National Police (RNP) and 20 Military Police officers, yesterday, completed a one month training in road security. The training was aimed at enabling participants improve their knowledge on road safety rules and on how to deal with various road situations. Some of the areas that the officers targeted to improve include first aid, inspection of the general mechanical conditions of vehicles and use of alcoholic tests, among others. Experts from Rwanda National Police, Rwanda Defence Forces, Rwanda Red Cross as well as Transparency Rwanda, conducted the training. Police constable Peter Ngiruwonsanga, one of the trainees, said the training was essential. “We used to face a number of challenges in our daily duties of ensuring road safety, but the package we have got from this training will help us effectively and professionally carry out our job,” Ngiruwonsanga said. Warrant Officer Two Zimulinda Gaspard, another trainee from the Military Police, commended RNP for organizing the training, adding that the knowledge they gained will enable them to better ensure road safety. In his remarks, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Emmanuel Butera, urged trainees to use the skills acquired from the training to ensure road safety. “You should be characterized by discipline in your daily activities,” Butera said. Lieutenant Colonel Simeon Ndamukunda, the head of Military Traffic Police, pointed to team work between the traffic police and Military police officers as necessary since both have the same duty of ensuring road safety.
