I would like to channel my gratitude to the Rwanda Defence Forces (RDF), through The New Times due to their continued contribution towards the restoration of peace and security in Africa. Recently, I read in the paper about RDF sending more troops to the war ravaged Darfur region of Sudan. The international community sat watching when Rwandans were being butchered in 1994 and hardly any country came to our rescue but Rwanda’s continued support to the cause showcases our paradigm of ‘Never Again’ not in Rwanda or any other country should witness what befell Rwanda. People of Darfur need more from the international community because what they have gone through over the last five years is painful enough. Allow me also to use this platform to thank the commitment by the United Nations to join efforts with the African Union to strengthen the peacekeeping force in this region. However this is the time our Sudanese brothers and sisters came up and start finding long term solutions to their country because all these efforts by the UN, AU and all the troop contributing countries will be useless without the government’s will to have lasting peace.Keep it up RDF!
