A little honesty would do you good

Have you noticed that there are people who seem to take pleasure in lying about everything? They do it in a neat way, and usually in a matter of fact tone. Some go a step ahead to supply you with “evidence” and deep “explanations” to cement their point, that it’s usually hard to doubt their honesty. To them telling a lie is either a hobby or a career because they appear to gather comfort and amusement from it – I bet to some chaps its offense to go to bed without fabricating one. Every day is a fool’s day, according to them. They don’t seem to notice that it all ends with the 1st of April (how funny!). Tricking and hoodwinking people around shamelessly is their trade. I know all of us are tempted to lie sometimes; to be frank, in some situations we just can’t avoid it and this is understandable. I will confess that in some situations I have also been forced to lie but at least I have not let it turn into a trade or an obsession (thank heavens) like many people have done. If you thought being a serial liar is difficult, you are wrong, because it all begins with a single lie, when it’s on the verge of being uncovered; you have to lie again to protect it. So the sequence continues - a single lie matures into a string of lies. And this is how it becomes tradition. This reminds me of some classmate, who had made it a habit to lie about her mother’s death to lecturers as an excuse for failing to hand in course works and class assignments in time. However, when her mum’s actual death came, no one was willing to listen to her pleas; because the big question was, “How many times does your mother die in a year?” This is where the old adage “liars are never believed even when they tell the truth”, makes meaning. One of the reasons people lie (according to my research) is pride, some people are too proud that they never want to show or admit any weakness. So they end up saying anything (truth or untruth) to protect their pride, interestingly, they don’t notice that in an attempt to protect it, they unconsciously injure, if not crush it. The other reason people lie is because its culture, in this case, such people don’t notice it’s a vice because they were born and found it ordinary to do so. To wind-up, lies do not only injure the relationship between one and their people but also hurt ones dignity and bring embarrassment. So let’s try to avoid lies as much as we can because they are not constructive but rather destructive. Ends
