NWC coordinator for Kigali City hands over

The coordinator of the National Women Council (NWC) at Kigali City, Berrancila Nyinawankusi, over the weekend, handed over to her successor, Alice Ababo after holding the position for seven years. The outgoing coordinator presented to the committee her team’s achievements since assuming office in 2004. “Over 5,000 women in various districts were equipped with different skills that have enabled them to fend for their families,” Nyinawankusi said. She added that during her leadership, the council helped over 447 women to join cooperatives which have since changed their lives. Nyinawankusi added that they also managed to get a good number of commercial sex workers off the streets and helped them start income generating activities. She told her to always balance her time well despite the huge responsibilities at hand. “This job is quite demanding at times, yet one always has another job to attend to and the family. However, it’s possible to strike a balance with commitment and hard work,” Ninawankusi said. The new coordinator expressed gratitude in assuming the position, pledging to work hard together alongside her team. “I’m so glad that I have been entrusted with this task. I am looking forward to working very hard to improve the welfare of the Rwandan women,” Ababo asserted. She promised to advocate for women to join cooperatives, different projects and obtain loans to improve their well being. The Kigali City vice Mayor in charge of Social Affairs, Hope Tumukunde Gasatura, who presided over the ceremony thanked the outgoing leadership for the tremendous achievements made and urged the new ones to take on from there.
