Education stakeholders to discuss child development

Kigali Institute of Education (KIE) yesterday held a meeting with other stakeholders in the education sector, to come up with a systematic program for childhood development. Organised in collaboration with HOPE Rwanda, the meeting focused on improving the standard of education from nursery schools. Addressing the media, the KIE Vice Rector in charge of Academics, Dr. James Vuningoma, noted that there is need to take action if the education system is to benefit children at lower levels. “Although different people have played a role in educating children, a recent survey showed that professionalism was still lacking in nursery schools as there are no qualified teachers,” Vuningoma said. He added that in partnership with the Teacher Training Colleges (TTC`s), KIE, the Ministry of Education, and other stakeholders strive to ensure that there are qualified teachers at this critical level of education. Straton Karera, who represented the Rwanda Education Board (REB), said among others, the meeting was an opportunity to share and make consultations on how best education can be promoted. “We have discussed a wide range of issues but mainly information sharing based on challenges so as to get collective solutions,” Karera said. HOPE Rwanda Education Project Leader, Michelle Shaw, appreciated stakeholders’ commitment in promoting education, calling for more combined efforts to improve and promote the sector. Ends
