Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB) arrested Evariste Tuyisenge for allegedly having posted a tweet that encourages the public to defile children. Tuyisenge whose twitter account runs under the name “NTAMA W’IMANA 2” was arrested on Tuesday, March 21 as announced by RIB. After facing backlash for his disturbing tweet, Tuyisenge quickly deleted the post and issued an apology on social media. In the apology tweet, Tuyisenge expressed regret for his actions, acknowledging the severity of the crime he had committed. He urged others to avoid such behaviour, emphasizing that sexual abuse of minors is a brutal crime that cannot be condoned. According to RIB: “preliminary investigations suggest he was under the influence of cannabis-type drugs when he posted the tweet.” Tuyisenge is currently being held at Kacyiru RIB station while his case is being processed to be sent to the prosecution. RIB, has urged all social media users to avoid using content that constitute crimes or send messages that encourage people to commit crimes and reminded the public that those who are associated with these crimes will be punished in accordance with the law. Tuyisenge has a large following on Twitter, with over 28,500 followers.
