Why charity work is important

A charity is a group designed to benefit society or a specific group of people in the areas of education and humanitarian aid. Charity work goes beyond giving relief to the poor, extending to the promotion of happiness and the support of many worthy causes. A charitable gift is something that is donated by an individual or organization with the intent to benefit the public or some segment of it as a whole Charities are ordinarily supported by gifts from donors and most states have set forth statutes controlling the manner in which funds are solicited for charities. A number of charity organizations in the country specialise in different areas which include agriculture, HIV/AIDS, Child Care and Education among others. According to Nshuti Rugerinyange, Team Leader Rwanda Water Project stresses that his Charity organization has benefited over 7,000 people in Bugesera District in Eastern Rwanda by helping them access clean water, sanitation and hygiene. “We started working in Rwanda late last year and since then the results from our work have been fruitful and we are committed to ensure that we reach to people in other areas,” he says. He mentioned that his organization targets to improve accessibility to water, sanitation and hygiene services for the poor and vulnerable people in the country. Phillip William Atkins, Norwegian People’s Aid (NPA), Country Director says that, NPA has supported various developmental activities in the country. He adds that his organisation’s focus is fighting Violence against Women in general and Domestic Violence in particular. Because many countries lack the infrastructure to tackle the HIV/AIDS crisis with sufficient zeal, numerous African charity organisations make this their focus. Projects usually take a two point approach and in addition to targeting the prevention of the disease, they are also involved in improving the lives of those living with the disease. However, numerous developed countries, as well as organisations such as the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank, provide direct aid to African countries as a form of charity work. International charitable work fills critical gaps in the various development sectors in the developing countries because government alone can not solve every social problem, without international charity, more people in the world would die of hunger, disease and live in poverty.
