Preparations for the 2024 edition of the Sauti za Busara festival are already underway as organisers on Friday, March 17, issued a statement calling for artistes to apply for the upcoming edition whose window is expected to remain open until July 31. Sauti za Busara is an African music festival held every year in February in Zanzibar, Tanzania. It is centered in the Old Fort, with fringe events taking place at the same time around Stone Town - including a carnival street parade. The annual festival is organised by Busara Promotions, a non-governmental organisation registered in Zanzibar since 2003. ALSO READ: Imena cultural troupe to participate in Sauti za Busara “Artists are invited for the opportunity to take to the stage and showcase their talent, culture and passion for music,” reads the organizers’ statement. “Preference is given to music from the East African region; original sounds with cultural identity connected to Africa; young and emerging talents; women artists or groups led by women; music with messages that are positive and relevant to society; performers with energy and excitement on stage, and music that is performed ‘100% live!” Busara promotions said all interested artists are required to complete an online application form available on the Sauti za Busara website. “The requirements include the artist’s biography, latest audio releases, live performance video, promotional photos and links to artist’s website or social media pages. The deadline to complete applications is midnight (EAT) on 31st July 2023.” The festival selection committee will review all applications in August and artists will be notified before September. The confirmed line-up will be released in October. According to reports, all selected artists are offered a modest honorarium, local transport and accommodation in Zanzibar, per-diems and visa costs, when required. The 21st festival edition will take place from February 9 – 11, 2024 at the Old Fort (Ngome Kongwe), with live performances of unique and diverse African music styles, collaborations, technical workshops, and networking opportunities for professionals.
