Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB) has arrested five officials from Southern Province allegedly over crimes related to public tendering processes. The suspects include Executive Secretaries of Nyanza and Gisagara districts. They were all arrested on March 17. According to the investigation body, an investigation is underway over crimes including illegally awarded tenders, and colluding with the successful bidder which resulted in the government incurring losses. “The investigation is ongoing so that their files can be processed and handed over to the prosecution,” read part of a RIB tweet. The suspects are detained at the Kimihurura, Kicukiro, and Rwezamenyo RIB stations. The Bureau warns people who misuse or embezzle public resources, reminding them that these crimes will not be tolerated.
