TR launches Huye branch

In an effort to extend its services across the country, Transparency Rwanda (TR) on Monday officially opened its doors in Huye District, Southern Province. During the inauguration of the office, the branch’s legal coordinator, Pierre Claver Kabera, highlighted TR`s roles and activities ever since it started operations in the area. “Since June, we have received 37 cases and we are progressively handling them the best way we can,” Kabera said. The head of TR, Marie Immaculee Ingabire, commended the Office of Ombudsman and other developing partners saying joint efforts have made the NGO`s work efficient. “The number of cases registered within that short time proves that there is still a lot that needs to be done in helping residents solve their problems,” Ingabire said. She called for the creation of public awareness so that members of the public get to know their rights to be able to report cases that infringe against them. In her speech, the district vice mayor in charge of social affairs, Christine Niwemugeni, promised cooperation with the local government administration in ensuring that the NGO effectively carries out its duties. “Our offices are open and your duties are equally important as they supplement our efforts in settling any disputes that may arise within the community,” Niwemugeni said. The Deputy Ombudsman, Augustin Nzindukiyimana, who presided over the event called for collective responsibility in fighting corruption and other forms of injustice. “Zero tolerance to corruption will step up national development as foreign investors will feel more comfortable to invest here,” Nzindukiyimana said. The watchdog body yesterday also launched another office in Kayonza, Eastern Province while two more branches are set to be opened in Musanze and Rubavu this week. Ends
