entertainment: Kigali: where the night is busiest at the latest spots

Party makers of Kigali hunt for the newest place for hanging out. Yeah, I made this out last Saturday, as I walked into the newest pub in Remera (not sober enough then to catch the name). Surprisingly, this place has been there for not more than a month, but it stands as one of the busiest in town. The faces I met there were the usual merry makers I have always bumped into at popular night spots. A couple of other booming hangouts have had their good times but in the end lost it to the newcomers. Take an example of Car Wash, MTN Centre! What about Kigali’s only (if I can say) discotheque, New Cadillac? When it opened up doors, in posh log cabins, competitors like KBC, almost closed down. Two years later, today, God knows how busy its dance floor remains- perhaps because of the many pubs that exist today, with music as good as a night club’s and no entrance fee charged. One of them is uphill Kimihurura, at Sun Downers it was ultimately the next place to get busy until it was burged into her newer neighbour, Papyrus “pub” or “club”…. I never get that end part, sorry. It pulled many white faces, then many the beautiful faces and then all the party animals. The Kacyiru based Shooters pub also claimed dominancy at some point. I remember a couple of rich teens popping champagne to the floor to slide- it looked a classy place, for bigwigs. But the last time I popped there, there were a few, I guess loyal customers. Like the Remera pub, other new spots like “Club Next” at Muhima, “Down Town”….are yet to tell their story. Whether they will follow the rise and fall drift, or dominate the Papyrus way, only time will tell. Ends
