Who would have thought that one day we will go back to wearing wooden accessories? Not in a million years if you asked me five years ago. Wood is commonly associated with furniture, and in the olden times it was seen as a symbol of wealth and status. Welcome to the world of fashion. Wooden accessories have now become stylish and trendy. I am usually very reserved when it comes to my accessories, I don’t like shouting pieces on my neck and arms, especially the plastic ones. But these fine wooden pieces of accessory have taken my fashion world by storm. They are so fashionable and versatile. Depending on the design, these accessories can go to office, can be worn on a casual day, and can be used to make an outfit suitable for a cocktail party, dinner or any other occasion. The wood accessories started with shoes, clogs have been on the fashion scene for some time now and what makes these shoes have that sophistication feel is the wooden sole. One special feature on the wooden sole of the clogs is the fact that the wooden sole makes it easy for one to balance the weight without having to wobble as is the case with many high heeled shoes. I bought one recently when I was attending an arts exhibition at the Amahoro National Stadium. As I was walking through the hall looking at different items on display, something out of ordinary caught my eyes and there I saw the tiniest and the most beautiful handmade wooden clutch bag I have ever seen. I looked at it and I was amazed at the ingenuity that went into making it. I must say it didn’t come any cheap, I had to rethink about buying it because I knew I will have to forgo some things during the week, anyway I bought it and my friends are now dying to have wooden clutch-bags as well. Talk about designs, bangles come in all shapes, sizes and colours. Walk around town and see young ladies wearing their coloured bangles in style. These bangles can be worn as many as one wants. Since these bangles come in all the colours, they can match up to everything –they can be purely wooden or mixed with some metal to show some creativity. From office to evening wear these bangles are sensational and a must have for every girl who knows what it means to be on top of her game. Necklaces too are making waves in the wood industry. Forget about the time when necklaces were all about gold or silver or any other precious stone. Designers have found a way to now make use of everything that exists. In fact I came across very expensive wooden necklaces going on sale over the internet, and they are selling like hot cakes.
