Insight: Education knows no age

The process of impacting knowledge and skills in someone surely has got no expiry date and knows no age. Learning is a process, even at an older age one can still be taught. I have seen adults go to primary and secondary schools, these probably did not get chance to go to those institution at a tender age for a reason or two. As someone who has participated in adult education, there are various reasons as to why many illiterate people are not so fast at going for these adult education programmes that are mushrooming up. When you talk to them, you notice they have a lot of inferiority complex although they love to study and have the zeal for education. I found out that some people have got families and less income hence making it difficult for them to get school fees for both the children and themselves. But again, others look at it as an embarrassment to go to school with their children. They just cannot stand the fact that they also have to do homework, attend preps just like any students. “Gosh… the thought of a 40 year old in a secondary school uniform is just not the best”, said Amos a 42 –year- old father children. “I would rather die an illiterate man than go to school with my children- its embarrassing”. He expresses. For some mothers, concentration cannot be 100 percent because as mothers, they are thinking of their responsibilities back home. For instance like what will the children eat, have they bathed or done homework? And so on. “Household chores just cannot give some mothers time to go to school and excel like other students,” says Mama Claudine, a resident of Kimironko. With these strong winds of advancement, I think the way through for the next generations is education. We therefore have to embrace it regardless of how old we are. If you have the chance, use it. After all, chance knocks once. If others who are like you are studying why can’t you? Education gets one to greater heights.
