Chief Justice warns against unnecessary litigation

KARONGI- The Chief Justice, Aloysia Cyanzayire, yesterday cautioned residents of Karongi District against deliberately delaying court cases which can easily be solved by lower level judicial authorities. Speaking during the traditional monthly communal work (Umuganda), she urged the public to abide by the rule of law. “It is wastage of time when you keep appearing before courts of law if your misunderstandings can be settled by local judicial authorities in the locality,” Cyanzayire. She noted that the practice retards both social and economic development of the population. On the same day, Cyanzayire concluded a one-day sensitization workshop where she called on Supreme Court judges to collectively join efforts against corruption. All the 14 judges of the Supreme Court were present. At the closure of her first ever visit in the area as the country’s topmost judicial officer, Cyanzayire also called for similar efforts from the general public. “You are the ones who are mostly lured to give out bribes when most corruption incidences occur. You should instead alert our security sources,” The Chief Justice urged the residents. In a related development, the staff of Karongi Intermediate Court on the same day visited Bisesero where they participated in the ongoing rehabilitation of the Genocide memorial. .Bisesero memorial centre is home to remains of over 6,000 victims of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi. Residents of the area are renowned for their bravery in resisting attacks using bows and arrows, stones and sticks. Ends
