Ombudsman trains Traffic Police

KIGALI-A group of 60 Traffic Police officers from 30 districts yesterday completed a two-day workshop on how to prevent and fight corruption and injustice in their respective duties. The seminar held at Alpha Palace hotel, Kigali, was organised by the Office of the Ombudsman. Police Spokesperson, Supt Theos Badege said the seminar would equip participants with more skills and knowledge on how to prevent and fight corruption. “Fighting corruption and injustice is a continuous process and this workshop is important because it will enable the trainees to clearly understand the sensitivity and danger of corruption and injustice and to come up with more mechanisms and strategies over these two issues” Supt Badege said. Addressing the trainees, Bernadette Kanzayire, the Deputy Ombudsman in charge of preventing and fighting injustice, pleaded with the participants to avoid corruption and injustice. “As police officers who keep law and order, you should know that you have a responsibility of changing the mindsets of Rwandans about the prevention and fighting of corruption and injustice in the country” Kanzayire said. She urged them to promote transparency, good governance and integrity in their daily duties saying that this would enable the country to achieve zero tolerance to corruption and injustice in the future. Kanzayire requested the participants to expose those who try to bribe them as a deterrent Participants urged the office of the ombudsman to carry out similar workshops among the local authorities and the general public.
