RWAMAGANA – Police in Rwamagana are searching for a catholic nun of the Bernadine Family of Sisters, who is believed to have recently defrauded Banque de Kigali – Rwamagana branch, of Frw13.4 million. Sr. Maria Mamerita Uwompaye, also formerly working as director of Munyaga Health Centre in Munyaga sector, is said to have approached the branch manager François Manege with a false cheque, obtained from one Robert Mutabaruka, surrendering it as guarantee. Upon receiving the money, Uwompaye went into hiding, sources said. But police instead arrested Manege and Mutabaruka pending further investigations. Police has confirmed the duo’s arrest. Police sources said it is believed Uwompaye might have fled the country. The Acting bank manager, who refused to disclose his names, declined to comment on the matter, referring our reporter to Manege who is currently in prison. When contacted, Sr. Anonciatha Nyiragumiriza, the head of the Bernadine Family of Sisters in Rwanda, declined to comment. I don’t talk about such matters on phone.
