Dear Editor, Allow me to express my great disappointment of telling that, Rwandans have refused to work on week-ends even when they are operating private business. It is so a shaming to see businessmen close their shops just because it is a week-end. What does the week-end have to do with their good profits? You close the door for clients and go to bed or drink or do whatever you want! Shame on the business men, because they do no deserve to be called business people! And they complain of poor profits, it’s all embedded in their poor operations. Matters come to the worst when it is Sunday. The busiest street in Kigali popularly known as “Mateus” for example, is completely deserted and you can only hear echoes from one or two taxis plying between Nyamirambo and the city center. Is it because we are all strong Christian? Not at all, it is just the way people have chosen to work. Some stay in bed up to mid-day or go for a drink. We are in a fast moving world and we can never catch up with its speed if we do not change our ways of doing business. The days of long ‘siestas’ (resting) is gone and we should start working around the clock if we are to match the already developed world. Ngoma district
