Embrace public-private partnerships, Governor urges Rulindo officials.

RURINDO-Rulindo District officials have been urged to develop initiatives to enhance public-private partnership to improve its economy. The call was made by the Governor of Northern Province, Aime Bosenibamwe, during a review of performance contracts of all sectors in the district. The meeting drew members of the District Advisory Council, parliamentarians and other local leaders. After the presentation by Executive Secretaries of performance for 2010-2011, Bosenibamwe said that in order for the district to realise economic development, it needed to attract private investors. Rulindo District was last year recognised as the most business friendly district outside Kigali. “Your 2011-2012 performance contracts highlight projects that will attract private investments so that this becomes a role model for other districts. I trust your management can do that,” said Bosenibamwe. He also called on the district authorities to increase production for exports and extend ICT services in the communities. Mayor Justus Kangwagye said he will put more efforts in balancing economic growth in the district this fiscal year. “We are looking forward to strengthening village savings and loan schemes to improve the welfare of the residents,” The Mayor pledged. He also disclosed the district’s plan to increase access to clean water sources. Speaking to The New Times, the president of District Advisory Council, Pascal Gatabazi, said the council would maintain supervision of the projects’ implementation. We will not be convinced by paperwork only, we will go down to the grassroots to see the impact of their performance contracts on welfare of the residents,” Gatabazi said.. Ends
