Natasha’s Chronicles:MAKING THE BEST OF TODAY

I didn’t always know that a big percentage of our life situations and shortcomings is our choice. I learnt this recently. Through our attitudes, order of priorities, what dominates over our time, attention and way of thinking, we determine whether we get the best out of our daily situations. Someone once said that the happiest people aren’t the ones who have everything they want but rather those who make the best of whatever they have. Ever wondered why many rich people are stuck up, insecure and are the ones that complain mostly of sleepless nights yet, the some of the middle class or poor people are laughing with their hearts rather than their mouths. This irony is here to show us that the best doesn’t look for us. We choose what best we get. At the end of the day, it ceases to be a question of what you have or want and becomes a question of who we choose to be and how we choose to deal with situations that sets us apart from the crowd. I’ll share a story of Viktor Frankl; “He was a holocaust survivor. He endured the horrors of a Nazi concentration camp. But he kept his perspective positive. He chose to learn from his circumstances and ended up creating a model of psychotherapy called logo therapy which proposes that searching for meaning is a human’s greatest drive.” His story is motivating because it teaches us that, how we view our circumstances is a choice. “We can choose a positive productive, creative, forward moving attitude or, we can choose a destructive, negative, stifling attitude.” It is also true that, “It’s not what happens to us that matters, but how we respond to it.” Situations, your school, your work load, your neighbour, your colleague, and the shirt you are wearing today, maybe unpleasant or uncomfortable yet somehow you have got to deal with it for the sake of your peace of mind. Kirsten Zambucka once said, “Though I might travel afar, I will meet only what I carry with me, for every man is a mirror. We see only ourselves reflected in those around us. Their attitudes and actions are only a reflection of our own. The whole world and its condition have its counterparts within us all. Turn the gaze inward. Correct yourself and your world will change.” In a nutshell, let us make the best of what we have, where we are, how we are, how we feel without complaining; let us always be positive for the people around us, for our country, for our home. Let’s make the best of today. Ends
