EASTERN PROVINCE GATSIBO — The Sector executive secretaries across the district have vowed to uplift the economy by developing other economic sectors that are currently un- exploited in the district. During a monthly meeting that started at 10.00 am in Gitoki sector last week, the sector leaders discussed strategies on how to uplift their district economy; by modernising agriculture, effective collection of internal revenue, privatising markets, improving cooperatives and sensitising residents to embrace the green revolution. The members also brain stormed on how to improve service delivery on their performance contracts during the second phase, by sharing experiences and encouraging development at sector levels. Vincent Murenzi, the executive secretary of Kiramuruzi, who chaired the meeting, said it is vital for them to share ideas on different issues before implementing them in different sectors across the district. There is need for us to be exposed by visiting other sectors to compare what is done in other sectors, Murenzi said. During the same meeting, the members noted that inadequate transport facilities were an impediment to effective service delivery. We need to travel to all parts of the sector in order to monitor the implementation of all policies, but this can only be possible with better transport facilities, Murenzi added. They also resolved to find ways of getting enough building materials that are always lacking in all sectors like cement, iron sheets and nails for building houses of the underprivileged, needy and Genocide survivors in the district. Similar meetings will be held in different sectors on a monthly basis, to help improve service delivery of Sector executive secretaries, they resolved.Ends
