NORTHERN PROVINCE MUSANZE — In a bid to improve hygiene in local bars and eateries, a local consultancy firm has launched a campaign to encourage the use of modern water and alcohol dispensers. The firm known by its French acronym as AC-COM [agance de counseil de communication, consultance et etude de project] aim to eliminate the use of traditional pots in favour of modern containers. The chairperson of AC-COM, Francois Uwitonze, said their firm will provide the recommended containers at agreed prices to all food and local brew sellers in an attempt to eradicate the traditional and unclean pots, jerrycans and tanks. The campaign started from Muhoza sector and would continue to other areas. Uwitonze who laboured to educate the local brew proprietors about the cost of poor hygiene, noted that sanitation is a healthy concern which should be addressed by everyone. Cleanness is a life issue, you can not develop without good health, because it affects both life and business,’’ Uwitonze said. Ruhengeri town, said to be the third biggest town in the country has attempted to renovate old fashioned structures; planted flowers and authorities are trying to make the town look clean Residents agreed to form cooperatives of dealers in local brew that would monitor and ensure that containers reach all the sellers at an agreed price and monitor their proper usage. The new containers, with labelled instructions of maintenance and use will cost Frw7,000. Ends
