Ideal interiors: Ten bedroom must haves

A certain young man who has recently moved out of his parents’ house wrote an email to me recently asking about the things he will need to make his bedroom a relaxing haven every time he walks through its doors. Well, for starters, the bedroom is the most private and personal space in the house. It is very rare that house owners would invite guests into this area. Its primary function is for sleeping and spending some quality time alone. Therefore it is only fitting that a bedroom should be comfortable. I must say that every person yearns for a beautiful and comfortable bedroom, because this is one place that gives you enough room to think while resting. Depending on one’s taste and affordability, a few but quality things are needed to make a bedroom comfortable. First and foremost, there is no bedroom when there is no bed. A bedroom should at least have a bed and not just bed. When buying or shopping around for a bed, try and bargain for a comfortable bed, because if the bed is not comfortable then you will hate your bedroom. We spend between six to eight hours in bed, and if it is not comfortable then you will spend most of your nights awake, which will make your mornings miserable. The second thing that follows after the bed are the linens. Cotton linens are the best to use if you want to sleep comfortably. This is because cotton linens absorb the sweat at night and are also cool. A bedroom should have at least three to four pairs of bed sheets so that each pair can be given time to alternate with others when being laundered. Pillows are a must in any bed. Some people prefer to sleep without pillows, but still they should never miss in any bed-they add a touch of décor to the bed. Pillows should also be covered with pillow covers, and a few pairs are a must so that they can be changed when cleaning. A wardrobe is a must in any bedroom for safe and orderly keeping of clothes. In case the house has no in built wardrobes, these pieces of furniture can be made by local carpenters, or a person can choose to have a simple clothes hanger, all these depending on the size of the room and one’s budget. Floor rugs are equally important in a bedroom setting. Just imagine waking up in the morning and stepping on a cold floor. Sometime the cold floor can make a sensitive person develop a cold. It also helps in dusting off the feet before one gets into the bed; this ensures that bed sheets stay clean for many days.A mirror is a tool that should never miss in the bedroom- looking at oneself making sure that you are clean and smart before exiting the room to go to work in the morning or to attend a dinner party can only be made possible if you have a mirror. A bedside drawer is a piece of furniture which doubles as a table and a drawer. It is a table because this can act as a place where the masters of the room can have it to hold a bedside lamp and a book or two. Jewellery and any other small items can be stored in the drawers. A chair or a seat is crucial to have in a bedroom. These chairs provide the comfort of sitting down when removing shoes, or when one wants to read a book or a magazine before they go to bed. A basket for putting in dirty clothes or clutter is also needed in every bedroom. Just imagine having to throw your clothes in some corner in your room. This does not look nice at all especially when you want your bedroom to be a place where you can go and relax.Last but not least, enough ventilation is needed in every room, for a breath of fresh air. A room should always be aired in the morning during the cleaning time, to allow some fresh air to come in and closed later before night falls in.
