Police planning spending spree

AFTER reaching the semi-finals of the Peace Cup and also vying for a second place finish in the Primus league, Police football club want to further their search for a first league title by bringing new and quality players to the club next season. The law enforcers have been the most improved side this season, bar the league champions APR Fc after reaching the Peace Cup semis for the first time after a 5-4 penalty shootout win over last year’s finalists Rayon Sport. Sources in the club told this paper that the club is targeting Rayon Sport right back Karim Mckenzie, Kiyovu winger Faud Ndayisenga, and Amavubi Stars’ left back Abouba Sibomana. However, club president Alphonse Katarebe, when contacted for his comment about the reported new targets, didn’t give too much away but confirmed that the club needs two defenders, two midfielders and two strikers. “Our major target is winning the championship next year. But before that, we need to strengthen the team. I cannot confirm now whether we are targeting those particular players but what I can say is that we need a couple of quality players including two defenders, two strikers and two midfielders,” Katarebe said. Police already possess the league’s top scorer, Ugandan born Kagere Meddie has so far netted 18 goals and was recently voted Primus Player of April but the forward has been injured lately, a situation that the club is desperate to change by getting some cover. Placed third in the league table with 36 points, 4 points adrift of Kiyovu with 2 games to go, Police will next play Mukura on June 11 in the semi-finals of the Peace cup, while APR will take on AS Kigali in the other tie. If Police win the Peace cup, then they will be eligible to represent Rwanda in the African Confederations Cup next year. Ends
