Last Sunday I was debating with my mother about what to wear, and I suggested that she wears a skirt that I had bought for her a few days ago. “I am not a fan of skirts like you,” she told me. “Just iron a trouser suit for me and I will be good to go.” Like her, many women today prefer wearing trousers than skirts because of the many advantages that trousers have to offer. Personally, I have a different style. I admit that I have been a fan of skirts ever since I knew how to dress myself. Even in my younger days my peers were all crazy about trousers and jeans, but I had a thing for skirts and mini dresses. To date I still wear skirts most of the time as opposed to trousers. Now, I am very excited because my thirst for skirts has been quenched by the return of full skirts of the 60s. This year, full skirts were seen on the runways of designers like Marc Jacob, Michael Kors and Jason Wu. Full skirts are finding their way back into fashion again. They are fun, flirty and attention-grabbing garments that can be worn on different occasions to make the wearer look feminine and ladylike. A full skirt will be a great investment this season, since they can be worn throughout the four weather seasons. Feminine and sophisticated, this look is a great way to update your style to something more grown-up. What I like about the full skirts is the vintage look and feel they carry around. As much as the skirt was first worn in the sixties, they are still very stylish even without adding a modern touch to it. The best length for full skirts are knee length because anything shorter looks childish and anything longer looks drastic, so proper length has to be put into consideration when choosing a full skirt. Also, when choosing to wear a full skirt, the type of blouse or top to be paired up with it is also very important. Wear a top that is simple, sleek and form-fitting. This helps balance the bold statement being made on the bottom half. The top needs to fit well and be form fitting in order to show a curvy and womanly shape. Since full skirts are nipped in the waist, the waist needs to be seen. For a casual look, a full skirt can be paired with a fitting t-shirt. Choosing a good fabric for any outfit is also as important. Office environment for full skirt is well suited with twill or wool fabric which comes in draft pattern for that conservative look. Going out in the evening or attending a function, full skirt made in silk in floral prints or made with lace hemline looks divine. These skirts when worn can be paired with kitten heel shoes so as to give that vintage style a strong point. Also heavy and chunky accessories look great atop of that well fitting blouse worn with the full skirt. Full skirts were seen as early as last year with celebrities like Ann Hathaway and Keira Knightley adorning theirs beautifully. These skirts have gone full circle and have come back with a bang. However, the good thing with the new modern full skirt is that they can either be chic and minimalist or cute and quaint, depending on the proportions and colour scheme a person chooses.
