Huye – Huye Court of High Instance, this week, remanded a university don for 30 days for allegedly taking part in subversive activities. Court ordered that Lambert Havugintwari and his co-accused, Alexandre Munyentwari, be detained to enable prosecution gather more evidence related to claims that the two took part in activities that could jeopardise national security by smuggling grenades into the country. Havugintwari, a lecturer at the National University of Rwanda and Munyentwali, an ambulance driver based at Gakoma Hospital, are accused of collaborating with militias groups operating from a neighbouring country to smuggle grenades into the country with the intention of causing insecurityy. The two first appeared before the court last Tuesday. Prosecution added that the case was connected to another one where a Genocide suspect who has since fled the country, Immaculee Nyiramasimbi, conspired with the two to ferry a bag full of grenades from Burundi using an ambulance belonging to Gakoma hospital. The ambulance was driven by Munyentwari, who in turn passed on the consignment to Havugintwari a a hotel in Huye District. The accused have denied the charges. Ends
