Pictures; the keepers of memory

My great grandfather never took any pictures in his lifetime. I would have been glad to see what he looked like at my age. In fact, I was the first person to convince him to take his picture when I drew him on a white piece of paper- I am a natural artist.He died a year later, at 106 years. Hopefully, he rests aware of the treasure his late pictures hold for his family. Many stories of many friends disappointed at their blind dates never cease to be told. And how would man trust the world history if there were no pictures or at least stone drawings saved to prove it? Who would pick a lesson from the ancient kingships, World wars, or African nationalism and independence? Practically, none would. Grateful friends are likewise honored to keep friends’ pictures for life. Never mind about how unprofessional the camera might work. These days phone have cameras installed in them and pictures are easily downloaded. And about the beautiful gardens to take a shot from?! The most memorable pictures are from nasty maternity wings after a baby’s birth, jail cells as a convict is released…. They remind us of those difficult times.
