Vania’s dramatic life

Hmmm…where do I start? Anyhow, here we go…this girl’s name is Vania M. It’s such a pretty name for a girl who was three years old when the Rwanda’s GENOCIDE happened. She had such a big family headed by dad and mum as the back-up. No offence ladies, just talking the 90s system of operation. So, Dad was a cell leader in the place they lived...mum was a nurse at a certain hospital. They lived peacefully with their neighbours and they were a very lovable family. But according to the former regime’s plans, they were first on the list of must-die people. Vania was a very little kid by then; very young to understand what was going on but she had enough memory to store what she saw. In a blink of an eye, the whole family was terminated by the malicious killers. They wiped out her entire family that only her and her uncle survived. Her uncle’s legs were cut off and left for dead. How sad!? This world can be wild sometimes. Little Vania, after the massive killing of the Tutsi during the 1994 Genocide was taken to an orphanage where she started her new life. You may ask yourself, how did the small little kid survive the Genocide? It’s a shocking story hard to comprehend that she was saved by one of the killers who saw the angelic kid and decided to spare her life. This man (killer) believed that despite the mission they had of sweeping peoples’ lives away, sparing a kids’ life would give him credit in front of GOD!…on judgment day! This killer man hid her in an old pot that used to act as a rain water container. She lived there for some time. The man who rescued her brought her food and water to sustain her. Lucky enough, she didn’t cry or try to get out of the pot. She would have been slaughtered because the other killers were desperately looking for her to put a full stop to her life. Fast forwarded. The killer fled to one neighbouring country when the RPF (Rwanda Patriotic Front) soldiers came. The girl was found in a pot and taken to an orphanage. She grew up in an orphanage. She spent 11years there. She had gotten comfortable in that environment. But the memories haunt her. Vania’s uncle told her the horrendous way they were killed before he died one year later due to the terrible wounds he incurred that got affected. Vania has grown into a very beautiful young girl and she is going to secondary school. She passed with good grades, which I believe her parents would be proud of. Every year, the Genocide Commemoration period leaves her hopeless, she remembers her past life and loss and tears rush down her cheeks. She still has very deep cuts. But after April, she tries to bring herself together and focus on her studies. The time came when arrangements were made for someone to adopt her. The woman who wanted to adopt her has three kids (boys). Vania was not comfortable at first because the orphanage was the only home and parents she knew but, on the other hand, she wanted to find out how the real world looks like. She chose a different experience. They signed the papers and Vania joined a family. Next week we unfold her new life. Ends
