Cricket boss gets ACA role

RWANDA’s Cricket Chief Charles Haba has been elected on the Africa Cricket Association executive board. The former Right Guards player was elected as East Africa’s representative during an executive committee meeting which was held in Nairobi on Saturday. Haba has been at the helm of the gentleman’s game in the country and his election is testament that the sport is heading in the right direction. The 32-year-old is already relishing his new task and told Times Sport that he is eager to push the sport to the next level. “I’m humbled to be entrusted with the task of taking East African Cricket to a greater level. I’m committed to the ultimate growth of the Gentleman’s game in the region and beyond,” he excitedly said. Meanwhile, the national cricket team has upped their preparations ahead of the upcoming Africa ICC Africa Division 2 Twenty20 qualifiers slated to run from May 14-18 in South Africa. The tournament is one of the regional qualifying events for next year’s Twenty20 World Cup that will be hosted by Sri Lanka. Group A pits favourites Tanzania against Botswana, Zambia, Swaziland and Mozambique while Rwanda is drawn in Group B alongside Malawi, Sierra Leone, Ghana and Nigeria. Rwanda won their place in the tournament after excelling in the ICC Africa Division 3 Twenty20 qualifiers held early this year in Accra. The winner in South Africa qualifies for the ICC Africa Twenty20 Premier League scheduled for July in Kenya. Some of the other teams in the fray include Uganda, Namibia and Kenya. Ends
