‘One Love’ to support orphans of the Genocide

Mulindi Japan One Love Project, an NGO set up to aid the handicapped in Rwanda, has organised various charity activities to support the orphans of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi and the survivors of the earthquake and tsunami that recently hit Japan. Some of the earmarked activities include competitions in football, volleyball and basketball as well as art exhibitions. During a press conference, the Director of Entertainment at the organisation, Olivier Rwabukera said: “We want our brothers and sisters to come and share experience as we remember our loved ones as this will help us to build a stronger ‘Never Again’ spirit.” He added that the activities will go on for one week and thereafter, the organisation will also mourn the victims of the earthquake and tsunami in Japan.The mourning period is expected to run for eight days, starting April 15. The founder of the Project Emmanuel Gatera Rudasingwa, said that the activities are aimed at reflecting the good relations the two societies enjoy. “Japan has always been supportive to this project in many different ways and to the Rwandan people in general. Therefore, we must stand with them during these hard times,” Rudasingwa observed, while calling upon people to support the initiative. The venue will be open to artists who wish to exhibit their works to support the survivors throughout the commemoration period. Ends
